Homes By Web - and one of our properties - was heavily featured in an article in today's Daily Express.
In his article "Savings can build up if you go it alone when selling your home", the property journalist Rob Griffin offered some tips for property sellers wanting to cut out the middleman."
Following a comment from consumer group Which? that the use of private sales websites could be the future for many people moving house, Rob noted that:
One example is HomesByWeb.co.uk which allows the seller to post a 300-word description of their house and four photographs on the site for a one-off fee of GBP100. Its founder Ken Dickson donates 10 per cent of his turnover to charity. 'We have properties in 20 countries and are able to offer worldwide exposure,' he says. 'An increasing number of people are coming to us.'
The article included an interview with the seller of a property advertised on Homes By Web - great free publicity for another of our advertisers.
The article commented:
Judith Watson plans on moving to France and has decided to sell her semi-detached home in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, on the HomesByWeb.co.uk website.
The retired quilt-maker and keen pianist listed her property on the site in the hope of generating interest from a larger number of potential buyers and avoiding crippling agency fees.
'The commission charged by estate agents around here is at least 2.5 per cent - which I think is very high - whereas I have paid just a one-off fee,' she says.
'It is obviously still a gamble but if it doesn't work, the GBP100 is not a huge loss.
'If I can sell it through the website that would be terrific,' she adds.
